Useful like a Lineart Tutorial by callupish Useful like a Lineart Tutorial by callupish
An updated and more coherent tutorial compared to my old tutorial [link] 2 years ago. OTL

Here's how I usually do my lineart. Also, I tried to explain simply why I'm doing this and why you shouldn't do that and what happens when you don't listen blabla. I remember when I used to NOT UNDERSTAND very simple Photoshop tutorials, so I wanna make it easier.

And yay, Ilias! Looks better than the first picture I submitted, I say.

ALSO: This can be applied to the mouse.
ALSO2: I, REFUSE to use the Pen Tool. Whenever I use it, it never gets my lines to look round or natural or human. It comes out mechanical and geometrical and too perfect. Everything here is all done by flailing my hand and sweeping my arm across the table.

This is a really nice tutorial! I must use it sometime...once I get back into actually, you know, MAKING ART. GRR.
But I'm still confused on the Layer Options. Some of them don't really look any different.

I guess you'll have to try it out to check out the difference! The images are unfortunately shrunk to be a few times smaller, so subtleties like the tiny colour changes (two options may look be the same, but one is more yellowish than the other) can't be seen. It's always best to try it out when you have more colours in the previous layers.

I have waaay too much work to do. All for one class. So much for a homework-free semester.
I guess so. I could spare to experiment more on PS than I do now. I just lazy and want to finish things too fast. Although, I've been wanting to draw something traditional for a while and get back to my roots. I miss my colored pencils. :c

I has no tablet, so I do things by hand ;; Also, nice to see other peeps using the "blow it up twice its size then shrink it back down" technique ♥
(I'm weird and usually vectorize my hand-drawn linearts because I'm weird and hurp)

Ah, no worries! I used to draw entirely with a mouse (still no pen-tool :|) when I was :icongelertashel:. I got that from another artist, and I WAS SO AMAZED AT HOW MY LINES LOOKED THAT I NEVER WAS THE SAME AGAIN.

was it by any chance :iconvert-is-ninja:? Cause I first picked it up from there :p

Ah, no, I got it from :iconblue-fish:, who used to INFLUENCE me artistically when I was young and dumb. :p

Hello, it's your beloved friend Looli. This is my brand new, squeaky clean, nobody will know it's me, stalking account.
Oh indeed, so that is the Ilias I have been hearing of, your comic looks very promising :D
Also, this is a good tutorial but one needs a decent knowledge of layers to understand it (Thank goodness for all those years staring blankly at photoshop), perhaps you can do a tutorial on shading next? :D
I think I have tried your method of doing lineart before but failed miserably, but then again I was never good with a mouse.

OHMYGOSH LOOLI :iconexcitedplz:
Yep, say hello to Ilias! Main character. Too bad you won't see him in the comic until the Second Chapter, but before that, the illustrations would do.
I tried to make it as easily understandable for newbies as much as possible, with pictures and stuff. Shading? I'm not that spectacular with shading, and I don't have a set technique for it. xD
Daaw, that's too bad! It takes forever to get used to the mouse. It took me about almost a year to get the lines unwobbly. Practice, man, practice!

Very nice, a tutorial that's easy to understand. I remember when I couldn't comprehend "layers", oh those were the days. lulz.

Also I want to say I enjoy that picture a lot, I'm liking the design of that character. 8)

Whew! I'm relieved the tutorial was easily understandable. I could easily have gone the other way with my rambling and love of words. OTL
Haha, a trip down memory lane! I couldn't get things cos they usually leave us in the dark in terms of explanation.

It's one of my better drawings of him! Ilias is pretty hard to get right. >( But uber glad you like the way he looks!
